SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 PM today, the center of the eye of Typhoon "JULIAN" {KRATHON} was estimated based on all available data at 80 km West of Basco, Batanes (20.5°N, 121.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 215 km/h. It is moving West Northwestward at 15 km/h.
Coastal Inundation. There is a moderate to high risk of life threatening storm surge in the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and northern mainland Cagayan. For more information, refer to Storm Surge Warning No. 2 issued at 8:00 PM today.

ABOUT SATELLITE. HIMAWARI 8/9. The HIMAWARI 8/9 are geo-stationary weather satellites, successors to Japan Meteorological Agency's (JMA) Multi-functional Transport Satellite (MTSAT) series. Himawari 8 was launched by JMA in July 2015 and was installed at PAGASA last December 2015.
The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices concerned are advised to MONITOR the weather condition and watch for the next warning to be issued at 08:00 PM Today. All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards.
