Marcos is a controversial figure there in my country and it's either people say he was a great president or a terrible president for the country. What I want to know is weather Ferdinand Marcos was really a malevolent dictator or that Marcos was actually a good president that we outsiders didn't know about or if Marcos was a mixed bag.

The Marcoses, specifically Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was a dictator who declared martial law during his presidency. His term was marked with corruption and violence, with people mostly activists being victims of torture and murder, some of them hasn't been found until this day.

The way they are selling Marcos Jr. as the "messiah" who will deliver the poor from their destitute situation with promises of gold, wealth, free utilities, and public transport can easily capture the imagination of the poor whose dire situation prevents them from making critical decisions not to mention their susceptibility to misinformation.

Mar 3, 2022 · Ferdinand Marcos is a fascist. Duterte is close to being one. I recommend “a history of fascism” by Stanley G. Payne. It really digs deep on fascism and past fascist leaders. A fascist regime always have an autocratic/authoritarian leader so they definitely fit the bill and fascism is not entirely anti capitalist anyway.
