The name "YIFY" is derived from the hebrew name of the website's New Zealand founder, Yiftach Swery.

Title! Hopefully I don’t sound too much like a lost puppy dog, but I was poking around the subreddit and I see a lot of people mention that YTS/YIFY releases are crap and you should really try to avoid them if you can due to bad audio quality, but the most recent mentions I've seen about it here are from a few years ago.
Jun 16, 2020 · After YIFY was down, many copycats appeared, with the current one we know that still stands, YTS. However, they have improved their encoding settings substantially, using higher bitrates in their releases, and are even pushing 5.1 audio in their 1080p along with 4K releases (which I'm not covering in this post due to lack of time and the fact they haven't released too many 4K movies yet).
Jun 7, 2020 · YIFY torrents purposely make the files small, because demand for file size is high. That attracts all the low end seeders who have weak internets and limited bandwidth. YIFY deliberately puts 1080p or 720p as the header for the film.
Aug 29, 2020 · The actual YTS/YIFY was shut down by the MPAA in 2015. Their most recent domain, yts(dot)to, now will redirect you to the MPAA’s website. YTS was an actual good site, but it hasn’t actually existed since 2015. The YTS we now know today is nothing but a mere imposter.
Feb 12, 2020 · Hey all, quick question - I noticed YIFY now has an option to download movies in 4K. Has anyone downloaded any of these that can speak to the quality? The filesize for one of the ones I'm downloading right now is 7.5GB, which seems really really small for a 4K file. How much of the 4K quality is lost when the filesize gets that small?
Dec 21, 2022 · Officially speaking? None of them. YTS/Yify shut down years ago iirc. Anything up now is just a clone exploiting the popularity/name. I've started using yts.mx though and enjoy it. The uploads are usual yts/yify quality, and they also have a web streaming feature if you don't want to torrent. IIRC yts.mx only provides torrent files, not magnet ...
Dec 5, 2022 · Make a custom format with a release group condition, regex should look something like \\b(YIFY)\\b (don’t pin me on this, I suck at regex). Then go to your quality profile, assign a score to the Yify custom format, and set your “minimum custom format score” to be that number/higher than 0.
YiFY let's people believe low bitrates and poor PQ offer a full experience that compliments HD hardware. If you are so desperate for file size due to HDD space or Bandwidth caps, AND insist on High Definition res, you need to make the personal decision on whether slight pixelation due to upscaling good SD is better or worse of an offender to PQ than video bitrate starving.
