  1. Jul 15, 2015 · A Brighter Summer Day (not scheduled) Here's an upcoming showing banner. The Magician (1959) There is a date glitch on TCM's banners (and daily schedule) where if it starts just after midnight, they show the previous day's day / date. And someone over at the criterion reddit did a spreadsheet for July showings. Numero Trois.

  2. May 2, 2016 · Being an avid cinephile, I had heard of A Brighter Summer Day years ago - but for various reasons held off on actually watching the film. The four-hour length, Asian setting/early 1960's time period, and the subtitles all gave me the impression that the movie - though obviously critically acclaimed - would be way too long & dense for me to appreciate.

  3. Jan 11, 2006 · Like a Brighter Summer Day seems like it should all be signed/sealed/delivered as it was restored by them, but it seems like further restoration/rights issues keep coming up. Speaking of which: The news on the Welles delays makes it sound like Criterion will hopefully be considering that Distribpix/porno company's apparent "pristine print."

  5. Nov 29, 2016 · When I saw the piece was 78-minutes long I admittedly wasn’t looking forward to going through it. I like Rayns—and his 4-hour audio commentary for Criterion’s A Brighter Summer Day is really friggin’ awesome—but a 78-minutes talking-head on Dekalog didn’t sound too exciting.

  6. The word on the film was "it's not as good as A Brighter Summer Day", but that's an insanely vague description, and could conceal something very great indeed. Even a film only half as good would be a must-see. When I finally did see it, I understood the general lack of enthusiasm. It's a dazzlingly constructed film.

  7. Jan 28, 2016 · The Apu Trilogy just last autumn, A Brighter Summer Day and Othello (eventually) coming out, this is not just icing on the cake, this is beyond any food-related figure of speech there is. From the link provided above by WorstFella it certainly looks like the BFI are not going the Janus route with this one (theatrical run first, Blu-ray second), for which I'm glad, since I'll most likely see ...

Picture 7/10. Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le samouraï finally receives a long overdue Blu-ray upgrade from Criterion, presented again in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1 on this dual-layer disc with a 1080p/24hz high-definition encode. Sadly Criterion hasn’t given the film an all-new restoration and instead are using the same high-def master ...
