Pre-Dentistry at UH Mānoa. Dentists are healthcare professionals whose primary responsibility is maintaining the health of patients’ oral cavities and adjacent structures. Dentists provide preventive care and diagnose and treat problems affecting both hard and soft tissues, including teeth, jaw, lips, gingival tissue, and tongue.
The Academic Program. The Department of Dental Hygiene at UH Mānoa offers the only baccalaureate dental hygiene educational program in the state. It offers the preparation required by dental hygienists to provide oral health care and education to the people of Hawai‘i, the continental U.S., and the Pacific-Asia region.
With the Bachelor of Science degree, students are prepared to sit for the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE-written exam) and Central Regional Dental Testing Services (CRDTS-patient based exam).
