Jul 18, 2017 · Type 2. Jul 18, 2017. #1. Hi I have been newly diagnosed with Diabetes type 2, was started on Metformin 500mg which took time to settle before before then increasing to 2 x 500mg. Side effects got worse on loo about 5-6 times a day and sickness. Now on Slow release Metformin, took 500mg to start, took a week to settle down then raised to 2 x 500mg.
Dec 31, 2023 · Metformin has very few side effects other than bowel upset if not on the Slow Release (SR) version. You can also have taste upset. I suspect the other meds you are taking would be the main suspects. Do review them with the GP and see whether any could have reduced dosage.
Feb 23, 2024 · Metformin don't make people lose weight but the side effects of worsening diarrhea, losing appetite, nausea, and muscle weakness, etc are damaging. My GP told me to stop the medicine. DM clinic is to arrange a consultation for me in a few weeks time. The waiting doesn't seem to be helpful.
Sep 8, 2024 · If you develop nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, unusual tiredness, or breathing problems, stop taking this medication and call your care team right away. If possible, use a ketone dipstick to check for ketones in your urine. BTW, and FYI again, you can get your weight and bg levels down by diet.
Mar 26, 2024 · Metformin sexual side effects. I've now been on Metformin (3x500mg now 2x500mg p.d.) for 18 months. Hba1c gone down to 45 from 100 and have lost 15kg (as per Prof Roy Taylor advice..now 70kg at 5'11"). Sticking to a low carb diet but have found my libido has plummeted to almost zero and have genital numbness and an inability...

Jul 25, 2020 · Jul 29, 2020. #11. Talking about side effects of Metformin. I was on 2 a day and told to take after meals. However, because of a sugar level spike, during lockdown, my diabetes type II nurse has increased the dose to 4x a day and said I need not take after a meal despite stressing the importance of doing so before.
Jan 19, 2023 · Hi, started Metformin yesterday - 1 tablet with my dinner. 3 to 4 hours later I had horrid abdominal pains, violent vomiting and diarrhoea, followed by itchy palms. I can't tell from the leaflet in the packet whether this is common side effect which will stop in time or something really serious.

For the first 4 weeks on 500gm a day I had side effects - queasy, retching, foul taste, some stomach cramps and constipation followed by the runs. But I persevered and slowly the symptoms eased. After 4 months, I just got the odd queasy day and irregular movements.

I was OK on one 500mg tablet, but since having it increased to two tablets, I have developed severe stomach cramps with associated bowel problems. After 10 days of increasing agony, I just stopped taking the tablets, and gave my insides a rest.
