His famous work has been embraced by the West since it was translated in the 19th century CE.
However, Khayyám is perhaps best known for his work as a poet. The Rubáiyát, his collection of hundreds of quatrains (or rubais), was first translated from Farsi into English in 1859 by Edward Fitzgerald.
