Indians speak English as fluently as possible with an accent mainly because they understand it as a language widely used all over the world and is still regarded as the main language for global business. It is a shame that we view that speaking English as something maarte.

Dec 22, 2020 · I don’t like the prejudice that is laid on me just because I’m comfortable and fluent in speaking English. People say I’m “maarte” or some “high-class b*tch who’s better than anyone” just because of my mother tongue. I mean, I know people who are smarter than me and they don’t need to speak English fluently to prove that.

Jan 15, 2015 · It's not like I don't understand spoken English. The Tagalog dub just felt very natural to me. So yeah, I think most Filipinos would still prefer their native tongues over English. Most of us are fine with reading English, so most of us would just tend to leave everything as is, when it comes to websites.
Apr 29, 2021 · English language is given more importance than Tagalog in schools, afaik. In high school, we were required to speak "in English only" for a set class period, those who don't - will have to pay a fine. It's grilled to us that we need to learn and get better in English to graduate and have a good job.
Mar 6, 2024 · Kapag kasi hindi ka naman mukhang ‘mayaman’ tapos englishera ka eh ang arte arte mo na. This is the reason why I struggle speaking English publicly because of judgement like this. You know the feeling na you want to improve yourself but you can’t help it but feel insecure because people are calling you out as ‘maarte’.
