It seems to depend on what sort of person is to receive the letter. For all I know right now, you say "Yours sincerely", addressing a single male person (Dear Mr. Johnson) and "Yours faithfully", writing to a female person or respectively to a group of persons featuring women (Dear Mrs. Smith/Dear Sir or Madam).
Just to help get this back on topic, I think it's AE: Sincerely, Sincerely yours, BE: Yours sincerely, (writing to a named person) Yours faithfully, (writing to an unknown person) As for what language to write in, yes, most native German and English speakers write in their own language, because it sets a better example for learners and lets us express our thoughts more clearly.

Whatever the best translation for "faithfully yours" might be in an individual case, the religious addendum would be "in Christo". ... at least when they are really writing German. "in Christo" is the (correct) Latin translation which is, however, not so very common anymore for German speaking people.

Entsprechung Mit freundlichen Grüßen. Wenn du die Person mit Namen kennst, ist die korrekte Grußformel "yours sincerely".
Comment. the rule is. Yours sincerely - when a person is addressed by name (Dear Ms Smith) Yours faithfully - when no-one in particular is addressed (Dear Sir/s / Dear Madam etc.) In emails I'd use "kind regards". This seems to be most widespread in commercial correspondence.
