For all I know right now, you say "Yours sincerely", addressing a single male person (Dear Mr. Johnson) and "Yours faithfully", writing to a female person or respectively to a group of persons featuring women (Dear Mrs. Smith/Dear Sir or Madam).

  8. Whatever the best translation for "faithfully yours" might be in an individual case, the religious addendum would be "in Christo". ... at least when they are really writing German. "in Christo" is the (correct) Latin translation which is, however, not so very common anymore for German speaking people.

  10. Comment. the rule is. Yours sincerely - when a person is addressed by name (Dear Ms Smith) Yours faithfully - when no-one in particular is addressed (Dear Sir/s / Dear Madam etc.) In emails I'd use "kind regards". This seems to be most widespread in commercial correspondence.
