History. The Augustinians were the founders and first apostles of the Catholic faith in the Philippines. Led by navigator and Augustinian friar Andres de Urdaneta, a Spanish fleet was sent by the king of Spain to the Philippines, together with five other Augustinian friars in Mexico.
