The Nine Network's first broadcasting station was launched in Sydney, New South Wales, as TCN-9 on 16 September 1956 by The Daily Telegraph owner Frank Packer .
Sep 16, 2016 · The TCN-9 television tower and studios at Willoughby – where the Nine Network is still based to this day – were built in 1956, in preparation for television’s launch. TCN-9 began broadcasting regularly on October 27. It was soon followed by HSV-7, ABV-2 and GTV-9 in Melbourne, and ABN-2 and ATN-7 in Sydney.
The following list of programs are currently broadcast by the Nine Network / 9HD, 9Go!, 9Gem, 9Life and 9Rush as well as their regional affiliates, including WIN, NBN and Imparja as well as catch-up service 9Now. Some affiliate stations have alternate schedules and may air programs at different times.
Nine’s proud history dates back to the 1950s when it was originally called TCN-9. The station launched in September 1956, broadcasting Australia’s first ever program: This Is Television.
Sep 16, 2016 · When Packer purchased Melbourne channel GTV9 in 1960 it led the way to form Australia’s first commercial television network by pairing up TCN and GTV. The National Television Network, as it was originally known in 1962, later became the Nine Network.
Our history. Our history in broadcast television is rich. John Godson introduced the station on 16 September 1956 out of its headquarters in Willoughby, a suburb located on the North Shore of Sydney, Australia, where the station still operates today.
On September 16, 1956, TCN-9 began broadcasting in Sydney, with HSV-7 two months later in Melbourne. A year later HSV-7 and GTV-9 swapped affiliations. In 1959, QTQ-9 in Brisbane and NWS-9 in Adelaide joined forming the basis for the national broadcaster known as the National Television Network.
