Oct 17, 2014 · Located on the eastern edge of The Ohio State University’s campus, the Wexner Center was built to accommodate a multidisciplinary space for the exploration and exhibition of contemporary art.
The Wexner Center for the Arts is the Ohio State University's "multidisciplinary, international laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art." The Wexner Center is a lab and public gallery, but not an art museum, as it does not collect art.
The entity is a laboratory and public gallery, not a museum, no houses collections of art. Although, when it was built it replaced the Gallery of Fine Arts of the University, and took possession and administration of the permanent collection of the University, with about 3,000 works of art.
