Jun 26, 2020 · For learning, consider a Lab VM-50. Slightly cheaper than the Lab PA-220 you will find that the commit times on the VM are about five seconds Vs a minute or more on the PA-220. I no longer lab on hardware due to this.
Oct 23, 2023 · Wouldn’t recommend 10.2 on any PA-220 unless you like getting disk space messages. Despite the bug fixes it is still an issue. Haven’t had one actually crash yet on 10.2.5 like on earlier 10.2.X but the disk space errors are real and annoying. Just started a project to replace all 220’s with 440’s since renewals are actually less expensive.
Aug 6, 2023 · Only use the PA-220 to learn the hardware specific context and ask your boss for a PAN-OS VM license or trial for labbing. PA-220 commit jobs are too slow for frequent changes while learning. Not a good use of your time. Then start with Beacon STRATA courses like already suggested here.
Aug 19, 2023 · Well time will tell but after upgrade the PA-220 to 10.2.5 that has had space issues on root it looks really good. Have not seen this much root free space in a very long time. user@XX-XXX-FW> show system disk-space
Apr 30, 2018 · Is there a limit on the number of virtual routers that can be created on the PA-220? I ask because we had training last week for Palo Alto and the PA-50VM had a limit of 3 when doing the labs. Also, for home use the lab unit should work fine with no “gotchas” besides slower RMA support?
Dec 7, 2022 · This is why I enjoy fortigates. Sure you need access to the support portal but their licensing, account teams, and ability to do firmware updates is so much better than Palo Alto. The PA-220 I got off eBay is running 10.2.2 which is pretty cool.
Apr 12, 2022 · A lot of the hardware vendors took a similar approach as a way to limit gray market sales of used equipment. Palo Alto has been tough on this since I started using them in production (when the 3020 was released). My argument to them was that on lab equipment they should make an exception and at least let people download firmware updates.
Jun 12, 2018 · I understand that the PA-220 comes with SSD as Storage ? Is this also true for the PA-220 Lab Unit as well ? Or do I have to give specific instructions to Palo Alto to allow for the installation of a SSD in my PA-220 Lab Unit ? Is the License for the PA-220 Lab Unit's OS Pepertual ? Meaning it will not Expire at a later date ?

Oct 19, 2021 · Okay, so I have PA-220 which is only blocking select windows updates The updates in questions are microsoft defender signature updates, windows malicius removal tool and windows servicing stack update ( kb4023057 ) All other updates including drivers it downloads with no issue and no complaints.
