Feb 4, 2021 · It's now been 50 years since "American Pie" — all eight and a half cryptic minutes of it— took hold of the airwaves in 1971, and it's safe to say there's never been another song like it.
Her variety show was "The Dinah Shore Chevy Show" (Oct. 1956 to June 1963), and the above song was the shows theme song. The phrase, "as American as Apple Pie" came along in the 60's, and Dinah was certainly that. However, she also had a hit song in 1945 about a very American pie entitled "Shoo Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy."
