  4. Jun 1, 2011 · We analyzed athletes’ self-reported experiences of poor coaching. Athletes reported poor coaches tended to negatively influence their performance. Coaches were distracted, engendered self-doubt, demotivated, and divided the team. In response to these poor behaviors athletes used several coping strategies.
