Canesten is an antifungal preparation for external use. It contains Clotrimazole 10mg. It is used for the treatment of dermatomycoses caused by fungi, yeasts and molds: Athlete's foot (alipunga) Hand fungus Ringworm (buni) Jock itch (hadhad) Pityriasis versicolor (an-an) Other skin fungal infections (cutanenous candidiasis, erythrasma)
To treat jock itch, athlete's foot, and ringworm for adults, apply a thin layer of cream and gently massage it into the affected and surrounding skin area twice daily, in the morning and evening. Improvement in the itching should be seen within the first week. For jock itch and ringworm, treatment should be continued for 2 to 4 weeks.
Bifonazole (CanesPro®) is a potent cream that kills fungi that cause athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm and white spots. It is more convenient than Clotrimazole (Canesten®) as it only needs to be applied once daily for 2-4 weeks.
A strip of cream (½ cm long) is enough to treat an area of about the size of the hand. Duration of treatment: Dermatomycoses 3-4 wk. Erythrasma 2-4 wk. Pityriasis versicolor 1-3 wk. Candida vulvitis & candida balanitis 1-2 wk. Consult a physician if there is no improvement after the recommended duration.
