Paulo Lins (born January 11, 1958, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian author. Lins grew up in Rio de Janeiro and at the age of seven moved to the City of God favela.
City of God is a sprawling, magnificently told epic about gang life in Rio's favelas, based on years of research and Pualo Lins's firsthand experience growing up in Cicade de Deus. Jul 8, 2014 · The author, poet and scriptwriter Paulo Lins was raised in the Cidade de Deus or ‘City of God’ in the 1960s and 1970s, and saw the Rio de Janeiro favela he lived in catapulted to notoriety by his own 1997 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name.
Having grown up and worked as an anthropologist in the favelas, Paulo Lins, born in 1958, has a unique understanding of their culture and ways. As a teacher, poet and novelist, Lins gained recognition as an exceptional storyteller.

Paulo Lins was born on June 11, 1958, in Rio de Janeiro. When he turned seven years’ old, he moved to the Cidada de deus favela (City of Gods). Favelas are known for being very dangerous, low class, and overly pack. Lins was lucky to escape the violence of the favelas and become a great writer.
