Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson.
ATCO (an abbreviated form of Atlantic Corporation) was chosen as the new label name to accommodate releases that didn't fit into Atlantic's then-current roster of Soul artists. By 1994, the ATCO name was dropped and the label reverted to the EastWest Records America branding.
In 2020, Atlantic Records announced the relaunching of its original subsidiary label Atco Records, under the authority of its A&R President Pete Ganbarg. This reactivation of Atco Records marks the first time in over 25 years that the label has actively operated under the Atlantic Records umbrella.
