During his long and illustrious career ranging throughout the desert Southwest, he was a trapper, a guide, a military scout, an Indian agent, a soldier, a rancher and an authentic legend.

In March 1868, Kit Carson sat for his final photo while on a trip to Boston. Two months later he died from an abdominal aortic aneurysm in Fort Lyon, Colorado.
The Kit Carson Park is located in the Historic area of Taos. It has a couple of baseball/softball fields along with a lot of green space where festivals and concerts are held. The park is unique in that it also contains the small Kit Carson Memorial Cemetery.
