Gavin Newsom. Gavin Christopher Newsom (born October 10, 1967) is an American politician and businessman serving as the 40th governor of California since 2019. As a member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 49th lieutenant governor of California from 2011 to 2019 and served as the 42nd mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011.
Newsom was also a keen walker and would take Gavin backpacking along the rivers of California. He had a large collection of books and would often read while in the bathtub. Newsom was married to Tessa in 1966 and their son Gavin was born the next year; a daughter followed in 1968. Newsom was divorced shortly afterwards and Tessa died in 2002.
