Rattan fruit in the central (sort of northern) part of Luzon. It’s called kayapi in the Visayan areas. Called salak or snake fruit in other parts of Southeast Asia, such as Indonesia and Malaysia. Known for being very sour, alimuran fruit is usually eaten with salt or pickled for consumption.
Some species of rattan also have edible scaly fruit and heart of palm. Despite increasing attempts in the last 30 years at commercial cultivation, almost all rattan products still come from wild-harvested plants. Rattan supplies are now rapidly threatened due to deforestation and overexploitation.

Jun 19, 2020 · Rattan Fruits,locally known as Kayape, are one of the best fruits in my opinion. I admire it most for its beautiful glossy shell, and its sour-sweet jelly-like fruit. It is a little bit “aslum” (sour), but you can add some salt or sugar to change up the taste.
