Aug 23, 2014 · Before he became a statesman, Virata served as dean of the College of Business Administration of the University of the Philippines, which is now named after him—the Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business (VSB)—despite criticisms and oppositions from 1960 to 1967.
He is currently the corporate vice chairman of the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation. He is the eponym of the Cesar Virata School of Business, the business school of the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Business professor, college dean, management expert, Cesar Virata emerged as the most prominent technocrat during the presidency and martial law rule of Ferdinand Marcos. He rose to prime minister in the parliamentary government.
The Honorable Cesar E.A. Virata assumed the deanship in 1960. During his term, the Master of Business Administration was instituted, and the MBA (part time program) was first offered in UP Diliman. During the term of Dean Virata, the first group of faculty was sent to the U.S. for further studies.
