The Breakfast Club is explicitly set at Shermer High School. It was filmed at Maine North High School in Des Plaines, Illinois, a location also used for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off also shot scenes in Hughes’ alma mater Glenbrook North High School.)
Though the majority of the story takes place in the library of Shermer High School, filming actually took place in the gymnasium of Maine North High School. The library was deemed too small to film in so a set was created in the gym.
