Benjamin Santos Abalos Sr. (born September 21, 1934) is a Filipino politician who currently serves as the mayor of Mandaluyong, Metro Manila since 2022, a position he also held from 1986 to 1987 and from 1988 to 1998.
Abalos was first elected mayor in 1998, succeeding his father Benjamin Abalos. His brand of governance was credited with transforming Mandaluyong into the “Tiger City of the Philippines” in just one term of office.
MAYOR BENJAMIN S. ABALOS was born into a humble and poor family in Pangasinan on Sept. 21, 1935. His life then was never easy while growing up in a rural area. His parents put premiums on education as the only passport for them to be away from the agony of poverty.

Jan 26, 2021 · In an official statement of the Abalos family released by the MMDA, she died of severe sepsis, secondary to pneumonia due to COVID-19. The Abalos family disclosed that the night before her passing, she tested positive for COVID-19. Corazon and husband Benjamin were first reported to have COVID-19 back in July, 2020.
