Welcome to the Town of Plainfield, Indiana! We are a community southwest of Indianapolis near the Indianapolis International Airport. We trace our roots back to 1839, when the first incorporation of the Town was attempted. In 2014, we, as a community, celebrate our 175 anniversary.
Plainfield has long been associated with the national road, U.S. 40, which goes through town as "Main Street." One incident which brought Plainfield national attention occurred in 1842 when President Martin Van Buren was spilled purposefully from his stage coach into the thick mud of the highway.
