It is a sequel to the long-running 1986 musical The Phantom of the Opera and was loosely adapted from Forsyth's 1999 novel The Phantom of Manhattan .

So, depending on your perspective, Love Never Dies is either an unnecessary sequel or a pleasant conclusion. For fans unsatisfied with the original's finale, it offers an alternate ending. While still bittersweet, we see the Phantom progress into a character capable and worthy of true love.

May 9, 2018 · The stage and lighting design of Love Never Dies masterfully portray the magical chaos and corrupted beauty of 1907 Coney Island. I was truly enamored by the incredibly beautiful, complex and seemingly perpetually moving stage design threaded throughout the musical.
Love Never Dies is a continuation of The Phantom of the Opera, set a decade after the Phantom’s disappearance from the Paris Opera House. When the Phantom invites Christine Daaé, her husband Raoul, and their young son Gustave to New York, old wounds resurface and secrets unravel.
