Bulawayo (/ b ʊ l ə ˈ w ɑː j oʊ /, /-ˈ w eɪ oʊ /; Northern Ndebele: Bulawayo) is the second largest city in Zimbabwe, and the largest city in the country's Matabeleland region. The city's population is disputed; the 2022 census listed it at 665,940, while the Bulawayo City Council claimed it to be about 1.2 million.

Bulawayo is a laid-back place, but there are plenty of things to do. Its main attraction – the Matobo National Park – is a short drive away. In the city centre, don’t miss a visit to the Natural History Museum: in my opinion it’s the best in Zimbabwe.

Bulawayo is cooled by a prevailing southeasterly airflow most of the year, and experiences three seasons. With little rain and cool, refreshing temperatures during the day, the winter season from May to August is ideal for a visit.
