Anna University was established on 4th September, 1978 as a unitary type of University. This University was named after Late Dr.C.N.Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. History and structure. Anna University (Chennai) comprises four colleges - the principal seat College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG, Guindy Campus), Alagappa College of Technology (ACT, Guindy Campus), Madras Institute of Technology (MIT, Chromepet Campus) and School of Architecture and Planning (SAP, Guindy Campus).

The College of Engineering Guindy (CEG) is a public engineering college in Chennai, India. Founded in 1794 as a survey school, and 1858 as a Civil Engineering School, it is one of the oldest engineering institutions in the country.
Named after C.N. Annadurai, a chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu, Anna University was formed in 1978 by the merger of four existing Chennai technical institutions with some elements of the University of Madras.
