Ivan Dmitriyevich Papanin (Russian: Иван Дмитриевич Папанин; 26 November [O.S. 14 November] 1894 – 30 January 1986) was a Soviet polar explorer, scientist, Counter Admiral, and twice Hero of the Soviet Union, who was awarded nine Orders of Lenin.
Project 23550 is a class of armed icebreaking patrol ships under construction for the Russian Navy. [5] [9] [10] Two ships were ordered from Saint Petersburg-based Admiralty Shipyards in 2016. [11] . The ships are designed to patrol the Russian territorial waters and exclusive economic zone in the Arctic.
Ivan Papanin (Russian: Иван Папанин) is a Russian icebreaking patrol ship. She is the first vessel built to the Project 23550 design. She was launched in October 2019 and went on sea trials in June 2024. The vessels resemble NoCGV Svalbard and Canada's Harry DeWolf class, but are more heavily armed.
