Apr 19, 2016 · A young naval officer by the name of Dmitry Ovtsyn was given the job of mapping the second section. He, too, began in summer 1743 making his way from the Ob estuary towards the Yenisey. He set himself the goal of accomplishing his task in a single summer, but the ice conditions in the Kara Sea forced him to return fairly quickly.

In 1721 he began studying at the Moscow Navigation School, but a year later he was transferred to the Maritime Academy in St. Petersburg and graduated in 1726.
