EXO (엑소) is a South Korean boy group that currently consists of: Suho, Xiumin , Baekhyun, Chen , Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun. On April 8, 2022 Lay announced his departure from SM Ent., no details regarding his possible future activities as an EXO member have been given. Former members: Kris, Tao and Luhan.
Exo generated the highest revenue of all SM artists, at 31% of the total $188 million fourth quarter revenue. Exo have been described by Dazed as "the biggest boy band in the world", and have been referred to as the "Nation's Pick" by the Korea Tourism Organization.

In early 2011, SM Entertainment 's founder Lee Soo-man announced the company's plan to debut a new boy group, of which would be divided into two units that would promote simultaneously in South Korea and China by performing in both Korean and Mandarin. At the time, the two units were simply known as "M1" and "M2".
