John Richard Schlesinger CBE (⫽ ˈ ʃ l ɛ s ɪ n dʒ ər ⫽ SHLESS-in-jər; 16 February 1926 – 25 July 2003) was an English film and stage director, and actor.
John Schlesinger was an Oscar-winning director who made acclaimed films such as Midnight Cowboy, Darling, and Sunday Bloody Sunday. He also directed for theater and opera, and died in 2003 at age 77.

Schlesinger received a B.A. from Boston College in 1982 and a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1987.
