S.W.A.T. is an American police procedural action drama television series, based on the 1975 television series and the 2003 film adaptation of the same name. Aaron Rahsaan Thomas and Shawn Ryan developed the new series, [1] which premiered on CBS on November 2, 2017, [2] and is produced by Original Film, CBS Studios and Sony Pictures Television.
According to the Historical Dictionary of Law Enforcement, the term "SWAT" was used as an acronym for the "Special Weapons and Tactics" established as a 100-man specialized unit in 1964 by the Philadelphia Police Department in response to an alarming increase in bank robberies.
