In 2022, I was selected as one of twenty thought leaders in the inaugural cohort at NYU for the Public Voices Fellowship, a part of a national initiative launched by The OpEd Project to change who writes history, with the dual goal of fostering and amplifying a set of new diverse voices and ideas.
Dec 14, 2015 · ASHLEY R. MAYNOR: My life was forever changed on April 16, 2007, when coworkers and students were murdered in the massacre at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history.
Following her experience of the Virginia Tech campus shooting in 2007, filmmaker and librarian Ashley Maynor set out to explore the phenomenon of temporary memorials and so-called “grief archives” using both documentary filmmaking and other qualitative research methods.
She was the co-founder and program director (2014-2021) of The Library Collective, a non-profit whose goal was to redefine the professional development landscape for next-generation librarians.
Ashley Maynor received the award for her essay "All the World’s Memory: Implications for the Internet as Archive and Portal for Our Cultural Heritage."
