RKO 1929 to 1936. After orchestrating 'Rio Rita', Steiner was made director of the new music production department at RKO. With the introduction of sound into movies he had a musical blank canvas to work on, and he began to develop a theory of how music could enrich the dramatic content of a film and not just exist as a background accompaniment.
