Sophia, electress of Hanover (1630–1714). Sophia was a granddaughter of James I by his daughter Elizabeth, who had married the elector palatine. On the death in 1700 of Anne's last surviving child, William, duke of Gloucester, Sophia was the next non-catholic heir, and was recognized in the Act of Settlement of 1701.
