An uncommonly stylish, nuanced psychological thriller with distinct echoes of the cinema of Roman Polanski. While the film starts slowly, once BUDDY BOY really gets going (which admittedly takes a while), it’s hard to beat: unsettling, outrageous and darkly funny.
Aidan Gillen stars as schizophrenic Ad-Rock, basically, an introverted caretaker to his invalid (evil) stepmother who condescendingly calls him Buddy Boy, his only escape being looking at the building across the street as a sort of horny James Stewart in Rear Window.
