Shankara established only 4 mutts for sure. If he did establish the fifth Kanchi mutt, the date of Shankara as claimed by them (509 to 477 BC) should be the true date of Adi Shankara. You can read my answer about date of Adi Shankara here. So, his life history clearly says he lived in 8th century AD.

Sringeri mutt established by Shankara, records Shankara was born in 14th year from the era of Vikramadhitya. It is concluded that Vikram era started in 57 BC, so Adi Shankara born somewhere 13-14 years after 57 BC. But this mutt is in the south, Vikramaditya of Ujjain never ruled southern India, even if he was a historical figure.

Here, is that Stotra composed by Adi-Shankara. It has 11 verses and gives such double meanings that it can be used to praise Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu at the same time. It goes on praising 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu and Balarama avatar also in one side while in other side the same verses praises Lord Shiva (at the same time) due to it's double meaning nature.

Feb 16, 2019 · Madhaviya shankara Vijaya does not mention adi Shankaracharya installing srichakras at any of those temples. In sringeri, the temple record does say that a srichakra was carved on the rock which they saw when the wooden idol was replaced by vidyaranya around 12-13 century. So it is likely done by adi Shankaracharya.
