Telephone numbers are fixed at eight digits for area code 02, and seven digits for area codes from 03X to 09X, with area codes fixed at one, two, or three digits (a six-digit system was used until the mid-1990s; four to five digits were used in the countryside).

That is because you may have to include the area code to the telephone number you are calling. However, if you are calling a telephone number within the same area code, you don’t have to include the area code.

If you’re calling a PLDT landline number based in Manila, add 8 at the start of the existing number. Meanwhile, if you’re calling a Globe landline number based in Manila, you must add 7 at the beginning of the current number.
If you’re calling someone in the Philippines through a landline number, you may need to dial the person’s phone number together with the area code designated to that number. The latter varies depending on the receiver’s current location.
