Sep 21, 2017 · Himawari-8 is located at 140.7 degrees East and observes the East Asia and Western Pacific regions as a successor to the MTSAT-2 (Himawari-7). JMA has commenced the unit’s operation of the satellite since 7 July 2015. Himawari-9 was also launched on 2 November 2016 for in-orbit standby service and will eventually replace Himawari-8.
