Sean Michael McDermott (born March 21, 1974) is an American football coach who is the head coach for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He began his NFL coaching career as an assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2001, serving as defensive coordinator from 2009 to 2010, and was later the defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers from 2011 to 2016.
McDermott was a member of the Butler Bulldogs for five seasons, redshirting as a true freshman. He became a role player off the bench as a redshirt freshman and averaged 2.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 10.7 minutes of playing time in 30 games played. He became a starter midway through the following season and finished year averaging 7.5 points and 3.9 rebounds over 31 games.
