Eadweard Muybridge (1830 - 1904) was a pioneering photographer and inventor. He is internationally renowned for his ground-breaking movement studies and moving image projection which was the first of its kind. Muybridge's achievements immensely influenced many aspects of our modern culture, including visual arts, film, animation and many more.
Muybridge generally used painted sequences directly informed by his motion photography for his glass Zoöpraxiscope discs, with monkeys, kangaroos, dancing women, horses and leapfrogging boys variously being animated. However, Muybridge also used at least one set of motion photographs directly for disc images - the horse skeleton pictured above.
Eadweard Muybridge tornò nel 1894 nella nativa Inghilterra, dove si diede a un'intensa attività di conferenziere. Nel 1896–1897 tornò per l'ultima volta negli USA per liquidarvi i suoi beni, riuscendo a conservare il possesso delle negative, che al suo nuovo ritorno in Inghilterra usò per pubblicare due libri: Animals in motion (1899) e The human figure in motion (1901).
