The Color Purple is a 2023 American musical period drama film directed by Blitz Bazawule. Marcus Gardley 's screenplay is based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker.
Plot. Celie, a poor African-American girl, lives in rural Georgia in the early 1900s. She writes letters to God because her father Alphonso beats and rapes her. Due to the rape, she gives birth to two children, Olivia and Adam, whom Alphonso takes away.
Sometime later in 1938, Celie sees strangers on the horizon of her purple flower field and realizes the African visitors are Nettie, as well as Adam and Olivia. Watching the joyful reunion from Celie's porch, Shug notices Albert in the distance and recognizes his contribution to Celie's happiness.
