    • 1. (1768–1813) Shawnee Indian chief; also Tecumtha. His plan to organize a military confederacy of tribes to resist US encroachment was thwarted by the defeat of his brother, Tenskwatawa (c.1768–1834) (also called the Prophet), at Tippecanoe 1811. An ally of the British in the War of 1812, Tecumseh fought and died in Ontario at the Battle of the Thames.
