Chief Justice Gesmundo was a former Vice-Chairperson of the Department of Remedial Law of the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA) and a member of its Corps of Professors as a Professorial Lecturer in Remedial Law. He was the Examiner in Remedial Law in the 2009 and 2015 Bar examinations.

Previously, he was Associate Justice of the Sandiganbayan, appointed on October 15, 2005, where he served as Chairperson of its 7th Division and as co-Chairperson of the Sandiganbayan Committee on Rules.
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo is the 27 th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He obtained his law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1984. After passing the bar the following year, he joined the Office of the Solicitor General where he was awarded Most Outstanding Solicitor in 1998.
