Biñan is located 35 kilometers (22 mi) south of Manila and 52 kilometers (32 mi) from Santa Cruz. It is bounded on the north by San Pedro, on the west by General Mariano Alvarez, Carmona, and Silang, on the south by Santa Rosa, while on the east lies Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the country.

Biñan is a city in Laguna. Practically, it is more of a bedroom community south of Manila, but is well recognized as the city where the Philippine national hero, Jose Rizal, received his first education.
Biñan, the richest municipality in the Philippines before its cityhood, became the City of Biñan, an independent component city of the Province of Laguna, in 2010 by virtue of Republic Act 9740.
History. Captain Juan de Salcedo discovered and founded Biñan at the end of June 1571, a month after Miguel Lopez de Legaspi established Manila when he explored the largest freshwater lake in the Philippines and second in Asia (Laguna de Bay).
