Fra Kleppestø går det hurtigbåt som tar 10 minutter inn til Bergen sentrum. I 1992 åpnet Askøybroen, som nå er hovedforbindelsen til Bergen. Det er to hovedveier som går igjennom Askøy. På vestsiden er det fylkesvei 562 og på østsiden fylkesvei 563. I tillegg til disse er det mange sekundære fylkesveier i kommunen.
