Tabon Man refers to remains discovered in the Tabon Caves in Lipuun Point in Quezon, Palawan in the Philippines. They were discovered by Robert B. Fox, an American anthropologist of the National Museum of the Philippines, on May 28, 1962.
The Tabon Man is the oldest confirmed modern human to have been found in the Philippines. His bones, which provide evidence of the existence of Home sapiens between 37,000 and 47,000 years ago, were discovered in the Tabon Caves in Quezon, Palawan Island in 1962.
Among those discovered on the site was the Tabon Man, which is believed to be 22,000 to 24,000 years old. The team also found over 1,500 burial jars, including the Manunggul Jar, a burial jar remarkable for its near-perfect condition.
The some 200 caves located in the limestone formation are collectively known as the Tabon Caves, after the main cave, called Tabon, so named after a megapode bird that digs its nest into the ground. This was the site to first establish the presence of humans in the Philippines during the Pleistocene.

The National Museum of the Philippines – Tabon Cave Complex was formerly a station for scholars who conducted extensive archaeological explorations and excavations in the area, particularly from July 3, 1962 to June 30, 1965.

Dec 1, 2004 · Simultaneously, the archaeological potential of the Tabon site has been re-assessed and fieldwork organized by the National Museum of the Philippines yielded another eleven human remains. Palaeoanthropological description and new dating of the human fossils from Tabon cave are proposed and discussed.
Oct 28, 2022 · Among these caves is the magnificent Tabon Cave, where the earliest direct evidence of modern humans ( Homo sapiens sapiens) in the Philippines was recovered. The fossilized skull cap and the tibia (leg bone) fragment were among the remains found in Tabon Cave, which were declared as National Cultural Treasures (or NCTs).
