Gregorio "Gringo" Ballesteros Honasan II (Tagalog pronunciation:, born March 14, 1948), is a Filipino politician and a cashiered Philippine Army officer who led unsuccessful coups d'état against President Corazon Aquino.
Biography. Senator Gregorio B. Honasan was born on March 14, 1948 in Baguio City to Colonel Romeo Honasan and Alice Ballesteros, a teacher from Sorsogon. His elementary years were spent at San Beda College in Manila where he was a consistent honor student and accelerated from grade 4 to grade 6, and the Dominican School in Taipei, Taiwan.
When Honasan finally entered politics in 1995, he became the first independent candidate in Philippine history to win a Senate seat. As a neophyte lawmaker in the 10th Congress, he filed 144 bills and 44 resolutions. In the 11th Congress, Honasan has so far filed 64 bills and 63 resolutions.
