The Battle of Mactan ( Filipino: Labanan sa Mactan; Spanish: Batalla de Mactán) was fought on a beach in Mactan Island (now part of Cebu, Philippines) between Spanish forces led by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan along with local allies, and Lapulapu, the chieftain of the island, on the early morning hours of April 27, 1521.

Because of the success in Christianizing some native, Ferdinand Magellan a Portuguese explorer crossed the channel to Mactan Island in the hope to spread Christianity in the area.
The painting shows Lapu-Lapu and Magellan fighting in the middle while soldiers from both sides are battling each other along the shores of the Mactan island. The palm trees and open space make the Mactan Shrine a great place to unwind.
